In early 2021 we consulted the local community on our plans to redevelop and regenerate the former Kingsnorth power station site and deliver new employment opportunities in Medway.

In March 2021, following careful consideration of all the feedback received, we submitted our outline planning application to Medway Council for their consideration.

This website provides you with information on the former Kingsnorth site, our proposals and the previous consultation. You can also find the latest updates on our planning application in the News section.  If you would like to be added to our mailing list and receive the latest updates, please take a couple of minutes to register with us.

The Vision for MedwayOne

To date, Uniper has invested in excess of £37 million in the regional economy, using local contractors to prepare the site for redevelopment. Uniper has been working closely with stakeholders across the region and nationally, including Medway Council, the Department of International Trade and Locate in Kent, to understand how MedwayOne can be part of continued economic growth in the region and contribute to the post Covid recovery.

MedwayOne is a strategic site in the South East region which benefits from access to pre-existing strategic infrastructure and resources, making it an attractive place to work and do business. Uniper has submitted an outline planning application to enable the redevelopment of MedwayOne for new employment opportunities.

Uniper’s vision is to bring forward plans for new employment space, which stimulates the local economy by attracting leading national and international companies, creating a range of resilient employment opportunities, and helping to deliver long-term investment in Medway. The development has the potential to include a mixture of commercial, manufacturing, industrial, distribution, data centre and energy uses.

Uniper is engaging with potential investors to explore ways to maximise the development potential of this strategic brownfield site to meet the needs and ambitions of Medway Council, businesses and the neighbouring communities.

A range of businesses have already shown an interest in locating to MedwayOne. The most advanced is “Gridlink Interconnector Limited” which is looking to develop 1,400 MW electricity interconnector between the UK and France. The proposals are subject to a separate planning application, submitted by Gridlink to Medway Council in October 2020.
