Uniper is delighted with the resolution by Medway Council’s Planning Committee, to grant outline planning permission for MedwayOne. The decision is subject to completion of a section 106 legal agreement between the Council and Uniper, which we anticipate being finalised in early 2023.
This new employment development planned for the Hoo Peninsula Medway, in Kent, could accommodate a mixture of commercial, manufacturing, industrial, distribution, data centre and energy uses.
The decision to approve the MedwayOne plans allows for the redevelopment and regeneration of the vacant former Kingsnorth power station site to move forward, enabling the delivery of new employment opportunities and continued economic growth in the Medway. The site will be sustainably developed over a period of ten years, and once fully occupied it will have the potential to create over 2,000 full-time equivalent jobs and generate in the region of £48 million in economic output and activity each year.
Uniper has already received significant interest from potential investors looking to relocate to MedwayOne. The most advanced project is Gridlink’s 1,400 MW electricity interconnector, which is currently under development within the MedwayOne site, having been granted permission as part of a separate planning application. Going forward, we anticipate a number of separate detailed planning applications for the development of individual parcels of land to be brought forward by investors in the near future.
We look forward to working with investors, local authorities, communities and interest groups, as the redevelopment of the site progresses.
